PM Modi Says India Defied Middle East Crisis To Achieve 7.7% Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India has maintained a 7.7 per cent growth rate despite the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, describing the performance as a reflection of the country's resilience and economic strength. Addressing the media ahead of the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Prime Minister said India continues to be the world's fastest-growing major economy despite global uncertainties.

Modi said the conflict in the Middle East has created significant challenges for countries such as India, which depend heavily on imports of energy and other essential commodities. He noted that crude oil, petrol, diesel, LPG, fertilisers and chemicals remain critical imports, making geopolitical instability in the region a matter of concern for the Indian economy. "Everyone is aware, and the world is concerned about the threat of war in various regions.

Turning to the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Prime Minister called for constructive discussions and smooth functioning of both Houses. He said Parliament plays an important role in maintaining the country's development momentum and urged lawmakers across party lines to contribute through meaningful debates. Modi also highlighted the experience of senior parliamentarians, saying their knowledge would be valuable at a time when the country faces multiple domestic and international challenges.

He said Parliament should serve as a platform where ideas are debated responsibly and decisions are taken in the national interest. "The country's youth, who are full of aspirations, demand that we move forward," Modi said, adding that Parliament should provide opportunities for voices committed to national development to be heard. He expressed confidence that discussions based on facts and logic would leave no room for unnecessary disruptions.

The Prime Minister further appealed to members of Parliament to ensure that every voice receives an opportunity during the session. He said productive debates and collective efforts would help the country achieve its long-term development goals while addressing the expectations of citizens. The Monsoon Session is expected to witness discussions on several important legislative and political issues, with both the government and the Opposition preparing for intense debates.

The session comes amid heightened political activity and a challenging global environment marked by geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.
