PM Modi Says Demographic Manipulation Poses Greater Threat than Infiltration

At the RSS centenary, the PM stresses unity in diversity and announces the Demography Mission for national security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday identified demographic manipulation as a more significant threat to India’s social harmony than infiltration, emphasising its potential to undermine national unity and security. Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in New Delhi, Modi underscored the importance of India’s ethos of “unity in diversity” and cautioned that any disruption to this principle could weaken the nation’s strength.

Addressing an audience that included RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Modi reiterated concerns from his August 15 Independence Day speech, where he announced a “Demographic Mission” aimed at safeguarding citizens from infiltrators threatening livelihoods and targeting women. “Social harmony today faces a grave challenge from demographic manipulation and infiltration, which directly impacts internal security and future peace,” he said, describing these as conspiracies that target India’s unity, culture, and security through separatist ideologies, regionalism, caste disputes, and external divisive forces.

The Prime Minister praised the RSS for its century-long commitment to fostering social justice and national unity by prioritising marginalised communities. Founded in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur, the RSS is a volunteer-based organisation focused on promoting cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility. Modi, a former RSS pracharak who rose as an organiser before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), called for vigilance and resolute action to counter these emerging threats to India’s social fabric.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Culture, marked the RSS’s 100th year of advocating Hindutva-inspired values. Modi’s remarks highlight growing concerns over demographic shifts, often a contentious issue in Indian politics, and signal the government’s intent to address it through the Demographic Mission. As India navigates complex internal and external challenges, the Prime Minister’s call for unity underscores the need to preserve the nation’s diverse yet cohesive identity.
