PM Modi Says Congress And Allies “Unmasked” After Women’s Reservation Bill Fails

PM Modi blames Opposition after Women’s Reservation Bill defeat in Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticized Congress and its allies in Parliament after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, aimed at fast-tracking 33% women's reservation, failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha.

In his address, PM Modi expressed deep disappointment that a sincere effort to empower women was derailed by petty politics and opposition resistance. He highlighted how the bill sought to expand parliamentary seats proportionally and implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam earlier than planned, but dynastic parties blocked it. Modi accused the Opposition of celebrating the defeat, which he said hurt the aspirations of India's women.

"Congress has proved that it is an anti-reform party. They are spreading falsehoods and misleading the country. Their hatred for reforms and women's empowerment is now completely exposed," said PM Modi, adding that the Opposition's actions showed their true anti-women mindset despite public claims of support.

He pointed out that the government proposed increasing Lok Sabha seats significantly to accommodate women's quota without reducing representation from any region, yet Congress and allies opposed even this balanced approach. Modi described the defeat as a "noble effort derailed due to opposition's petty politics" and accused them of committing "foeticide" of women's dreams. He warned that history would remember their decision to block progress for narrow political gains.

"By opposing this bill, what has Congress actually achieved? They have delayed the implementation of women's reservation and betrayed the mothers and sisters of this nation. Their anti-reform character stands exposed today," the Prime Minister declared, emphasizing that the government remains fully committed to removing every obstacle in the path of Nari Shakti.

Despite the setback, PM Modi assured the nation of his government's unwavering resolve. He called upon all well-wishers of women's empowerment to recognize the Opposition's pattern of blocking reforms. Modi vowed that the fight for women's rightful place in legislatures would continue with full strength, urging a collective national effort to ensure Nari Shakti gets its due in the world's largest democracy.

"Even though we did not succeed today, 100% of the power of India's women stands with us. We will eliminate every hurdle with high morale and firm determination. The dreams of our mothers, sisters and daughters will not be allowed to be crushed," he affirmed, positioning the issue as a long-term battle against forces resistant to genuine change.

The speech has intensified political debate, with the government now planning to highlight the Opposition's stand ahead of future elections while renewing its push for women's reservation implementation by 2029.
