PM Modi Receives Grand, Emotion-Filled Welcome in Udupi Ahead of ‘Laksha Geeta Pathana’

PM’s grand roadshow sets stage for unprecedented one-lakh Gita recitation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a spectacular and emotionally charged welcome in the sacred coastal town of Udupi on Friday, as tens of thousands of devotees and supporters thronged the streets for a vibrant roadshow that heralded his participation in the monumental “Laksha Geeta Pathana,” an event where more than one lakh people will chant verses of the Bhagavad Gita in perfect unison, creating a spiritual milestone of national significance.

Having arrived at Mangaluru International Airport earlier in the day, the Prime Minister boarded a special helicopter for the short journey to Udupi, where he immediately mounted the running board of his specially designed vehicle to greet the sea of humanity that had gathered hours in advance. From one end of the route to the other, enthusiastic crowds showered his convoy with marigold and jasmine petals, turning the entire stretch into a golden carpet of devotion while saffron flags and party banners fluttered proudly under the bright coastal sun.

The atmosphere was electric with cultural exuberance as traditional drum troupes, dollu kunitha dancers, and yakshagana performers lined the route, presenting the rich artistic heritage of coastal Karnataka in all its splendour. Children perched on their parents’ shoulders waved tiny flags, women in colourful sarees blew conch shells, and senior citizens folded their hands in reverence as Modi smiled and waved continuously, occasionally pausing to throw handfuls of flower petals back at the people in a gesture of reciprocal affection that drew thunderous cheers.

Security personnel had a challenging time managing the overwhelming surge of devotees who broke barricades at several points just to catch a closer glimpse of the leader they had waited years to see in their temple town. The air resonated with chants of “Modi! Modi!” and “Jai Sri Krishna,” blending political enthusiasm with deep spiritual sentiment, underscoring Udupi’s unique identity as both a major pilgrimage centre and a key political constituency.

Following the roadshow, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to enter the world-famous Sri Krishna Matha, offer special prayers at the sanctum sanctorum, and receive the sacred blessings of the presiding Paryaya Peethadhipathi before gracing the main venue of the Laksha Geeta Pathana, an event expected to etch itself into the cultural and religious history of the nation.
