PM Modi Reaches Out To Trinamool Defectors, Former Sena MPs With Assurance Of Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged newly elected National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Members of Parliament to actively participate in parliamentary proceedings, stressing that Parliament is the "supreme temple of democracy" and expressing concern over repeated disruptions during the ongoing Monsoon Session. Speaking at a breakfast meeting with around 45 NDA MPs, the Prime Minister said frequent protests and adjournments were preventing first-time lawmakers from contributing to debates, calling the situation unfair to new representatives. According to sources, he underlined that Parliament must function smoothly to enable meaningful discussions on issues concerning the country.

During the interaction, PM Modi encouraged MPs to deepen their understanding of parliamentary traditions by studying the institution's history and making use of its extensive archival resources. He advised lawmakers to prepare thoroughly before participating in debates and said informed discussions would strengthen democratic institutions. Emphasising the importance of regional development, the Prime Minister said the country's overall progress depends on the growth of individual states. He urged MPs to focus on the needs of their constituencies and ensure that development initiatives reach people effectively.

The meeting was attended by around 45 MPs drawn from different NDA constituents, including Trinamool Congress rebels who recently joined the alliance, seven MPs from the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, about 20 members from the National People's Party (NPP), and two MPs from the Nationalist Congress Party faction headed by Ajit Pawar. The gathering formed part of the Prime Minister's outreach to alliance partners and newly elected legislators during the Monsoon Session, aimed at strengthening coordination within the ruling coalition.

Addressing concerns among recently inducted alliance members, PM Modi assured Trinamool rebels and former Shiv Sena MPs who had switched from the Uddhav Thackeray camp to the Eknath Shinde-led Sena that they enjoyed his full support. According to sources, he told them there was "no need to worry" and reiterated that every NDA MP would be respected irrespective of the party they represented. Describing the NDA as a family, the Prime Minister said the alliance stood united behind all its constituent parties and that every parliamentarian would receive opportunities to contribute to governance and public service.

The Prime Minister also urged MPs to use their elected office to accelerate development projects in their constituencies. He encouraged them to maintain regular contact with people from all sections of society, including farmers, labourers and economically weaker communities, to better understand local issues. He reportedly told lawmakers that they could directly approach the Prime Minister's Office for assistance in resolving development-related matters, reinforcing the government's emphasis on responsive governance and timely implementation of projects.

The breakfast interaction came a day after PM Modi hosted 37 Bharatiya Janata Party MPs for a dinner meeting at his official residence as part of a broader series of engagements with lawmakers during the Monsoon Session. The informal interactions are intended to strengthen communication between the government and legislators, exchange views on governance and parliamentary affairs, and improve coordination across the NDA. According to sources, the Prime Minister also met each MP individually after the breakfast session to inquire about their well-being and discuss issues concerning their constituencies, underscoring his outreach to both senior and first-time parliamentarians.
