PM Modi Praises India’s Indigenous Defence Achievements In Mann Ki Baat Broadcast

PM Modi highlights defence self-reliance in Mann Ki Baat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s recent defence and aerospace milestones, saying that achievements in indigenous manufacturing and military capability during June have strengthened the country’s security framework and self-reliance. Addressing the nation in his monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcast, the Prime Minister pointed to developments in aviation, missile technology and naval expansion as key indicators of India’s growing defence preparedness and industrial capability.

Modi said that the first made-in-India C-295 military transport aircraft completing its maiden flight marked a significant achievement for the country’s aerospace sector. He noted that the project, which involves the production of 40 aircraft in India, is expected to provide momentum to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and boost employment opportunities within the defence manufacturing ecosystem. The Prime Minister described the development as a reflection of India’s progress towards the goal of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India, particularly in high-technology sectors such as aviation.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the successful test of the indigenous Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM), calling it a major step forward in strengthening India’s strategic defence capabilities. He said the advancement in missile technology reflects the country’s expanding research and development capacity and its ability to design and test complex weapon systems domestically. According to him, such achievements contribute significantly to national security by reducing dependence on imported defence technologies.

In addition, Modi referred to the induction of three indigenous naval platforms into the Indian Navy, which he said underscores the progress made in domestic shipbuilding and maritime defence production. Speaking about his recent participation in a naval event in Kolkata, he mentioned the induction of INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray into the Navy’s fleet. He emphasised that these vessels were entirely designed and manufactured in India, highlighting the country’s growing capability in building advanced naval assets through indigenous expertise.

Reiterating his government’s focus on strengthening self-reliance in defence production, the Prime Minister said these milestones collectively demonstrate India’s rising stature in global defence manufacturing. He added that such achievements not only enhance national security but also create economic opportunities and technological growth across related industries. Modi said the continued success of indigenous projects reflects the collective effort of scientists, engineers and industry stakeholders working towards building a more secure and self-sufficient India.
