PM Modi Posts Tribute To Jawaharlal Nehru On Death Anniversary

PM Modi pays tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on death anniversary post.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his death anniversary. The Prime Minister expressed his homage through a post on social media platform ‘X’, acknowledging Nehru’s role in shaping the early years of independent India. The tribute comes as the nation remembers Nehru’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle and post-independence nation-building efforts.

In his brief message, PM Modi wrote, “Paying homage to former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary.” The post reflected a formal remembrance of Nehru, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 1947 until his death in 1964. Nehru remains one of the most influential figures in modern Indian political history. His leadership during the formative years of the republic continues to be widely studied and discussed.

Born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, Nehru was educated at Harrow and later at Cambridge University, where he studied natural sciences. He also trained as a barrister in London before returning to India in 1912. Inspired by global anti-colonial movements, he soon became actively involved in India’s struggle for independence. His early political engagement was shaped by exposure to international movements against imperial rule.

Nehru worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi after their first meeting in 1916 and became a key figure in the Indian National Congress. He played an active role in the Non-Cooperation Movement and later served in various leadership positions within the party. Over the years, he was imprisoned multiple times during India’s freedom struggle, including during major movements such as the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India Movement. His leadership during these phases strengthened his position as a central figure in the independence movement.

In 1929, Nehru presided over the Lahore Session of the Congress, where the demand for complete independence was formally adopted. After India gained independence in 1947, he became the country’s first Prime Minister and played a central role in shaping its democratic and institutional framework. He held office until his death on May 27, 1964, after suffering a heart attack. His birth anniversary is observed as Children’s Day in India, reflecting his affection for young people and his vision for the nation’s future.
