PM Modi Praises Ilaiyaraaja as ‘Trailblazer’ After Historic London Symphony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met renowned composer and Rajya Sabha MP Ilaiyaraaja on Tuesday, lauding him as a “musical titan” whose work has profoundly shaped Indian music and culture.

The meeting followed Ilaiyaraaja’s groundbreaking debut of his first Western classical symphony, Valiant, performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London just days ago.

In a post on X, Modi wrote, “Delighted to meet Rajya Sabha MP Thiru Ilaiyaraaja ji, a musical titan whose genius has a monumental impact on our music and culture. He is a trailblazer in every sense and he made history yet again by presenting his first-ever Western classical symphony, Valiant, in London a few days ago.” He added, “This momentous feat marks yet another chapter in his unparalleled musical journey—one that continues to redefine excellence on a global scale.”

Ilaiyaraaja, a Padma Vibhushan awardee with over 7,000 compositions, showcased India’s musical prowess on the world stage, blending his signature style with Western classical traditions in a performance hailed as a cultural milestone.

Modi’s praise underscores Ilaiyaraaja’s enduring legacy, from Tamil cinema to global symphonies.
