PM Modi Lists 9 Key Oaths On Water, Trees, Swadeshi and Heritage Preservation

PM Modi urges citizens to adopt nine oaths promoting sustainability, culture, self-reliance, health, and social responsibility.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday administered a powerful “Nav Sankalp” (nine oaths) for Viksit Bharat, blending environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and cultural pride into a nationwide citizen movement. Speaking at the historic Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi—surrounded by revered seers from eight prominent maths—Modi urged every Indian, especially the country’s spiritual leaders, to become ambassadors of these resolutions.

The nine oaths he outlined are

  1. Plant at least one tree in the name of mother (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam)
  2. Work to save and rejuvenate rivers and water bodies
  3. Actively promote Swadeshi and Vocal for Local
  4. Improve the life of at least one poor person
  5. Encourage organic farming and natural lifestyle choices
  6. Include millets in daily diet and reduce consumption of edible oil
  7. Practice yoga and adopt a healthy lifestyle every day
  8. Preserve and digitise ancient manuscripts
  9. Visit at least 25 cultural and heritage sites across India

Modi emphasized the unique power of India’s saints and religious institutions to turn these pledges into a mass movement. “When our seers start blessing these sankalps, no force on earth can stop them from reaching every household,” he said, noting that the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has already seen over 150 crore trees planted since its launch.

The Prime Minister highlighted how water conservation, river rejuvenation, and tree plantation are not merely environmental goals but acts of devotion—“jal sewa, nadi sewa, vriksha sewa hi Ishwar sewa hai.” He also linked self-reliance with spiritual strength, asking citizens to proudly embrace Indian products and millet-based diets as part of a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.

The event at Udupi’s 800-year-old Krishna temple complex—attended by Pejawar Math seer Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swami and other pontiffs—marked a rare convergence of governance and spirituality. Modi bowed in reverence before the seers and sought their blessings to make the nine resolutions a jan-andolan (people’s movement) ahead of India’s 100th year of Independence in 2047.

As the country gears up for Amrit Kaal, the Prime Minister’s call from one of Karnataka’s most sacred sites has set the tone for a citizen-led transformation—one tree, one river, one poor family, and one heritage site at a time.
