Rail, road, fisheries, and IT initiatives unveiled
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth over ₹7,200 crore in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Friday, focusing on rail, road, fisheries, and IT sectors. The event, attended by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, marked Modi’s 53rd visit to Bihar since 2014, highlighting the state’s priority in the NDA’s agenda.
Modi flagged off four new Amrit Bharat trains connecting Rajendra Nagar (Patna) to New Delhi, Bapudham Motihari to Delhi (Anand Vihar), Darbhanga to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), and Malda Town to Lucknow via Bhagalpur, enhancing regional connectivity. Key rail projects included automatic signaling on the Samastipur-Bachhwara line and doubling of Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur lines (₹580 crore), alongside the ₹4,080-crore Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj line doubling and Vande Bharat maintenance infrastructure at Patliputra.
Road infrastructure received a boost with the foundation stone for the 4-laning of the Ara bypass (NH-319, connecting to NH-2) and the ₹820-crore Parariya-Mohania section, alongside a 2-lane Sarwan-Chakai road (NH-333C) linking Bihar and Jharkhand.
