PM Modi Launches 50 Electric Buses for Bhavnagar Under PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme

PM Modi virtually flags off 50 electric buses for Bhavnagar under PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, first city in Gujarat to get them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually flagged off 50 state-of-the-art electric buses for Bhavnagar under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, as part of India’s push towards clean and sustainable urban transport. The inauguration coincided with his visit to Assam, where he launched development projects worth over ₹5,450 crore.

Bhavnagar is the first city in Gujarat to receive buses under the national scheme. While 50 buses were dedicated on Saturday, the city is slated to receive a total of 100, significantly enhancing its public transport network and promoting eco-friendly commuting.

The new buses are air-conditioned, equipped with CCTV cameras for passenger safety, and designed to be accessible for Divyangs, reflecting the scheme’s focus on inclusive mobility. Officials highlighted that the fleet aims to provide a modern, safe, and convenient travel option for residents.

Gujarat’s rollout under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme includes 750 electric buses across eight cities, including Vadodara (250 buses), Rajkot (100), Gandhinagar (100), Jamnagar (50), Junagadh (50), Gandhidham (80), and Navsari (20), with Bhavnagar receiving the largest initial deployment after Vadodara.

The Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM) will serve as the state nodal agency overseeing the scheme’s implementation. This initiative complements earlier allocations of electric buses to cities such as Nagpur, Chandigarh, and Guwahati, marking a nationwide shift towards sustainable, low-emission urban transport.

The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme aims to reduce pollution, improve passenger experience, and strengthen public transport infrastructure, supporting India’s broader environmental and climate goals.
