The dialogue comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top military officials. Iran subsequently launched drone and missile attacks targeting US and Israeli facilities, regional capitals, and allied forces across the region.
Over the past few days, PM Modi has also held talks with leaders from the UAE, Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar to maintain diplomatic engagement and coordinate responses to the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Gulf region. On Tuesday, he spoke with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reiterating India’s condemnation of attacks on the UAE and agreeing on the importance of safeguarding maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Both conversations underline India’s commitment to regional stability, the safety of its citizens abroad, and the protection of critical international shipping routes in a volatile West Asian environment.
