PM Modi Invokes Singapore Model as Daman Targets Infrastructure-Led Development
PM Modi urges Singapore-style development for Daman’s growth vision.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday drew a comparison between the development aspirations of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and Singapore’s transformation, saying that long-term planning and ambitious goals could reshape the future of the Union Territory. Addressing a public gathering in Daman, he said the region is increasingly moving towards an infrastructure-led growth model aimed at boosting economic activity and improving living standards.
Recalling his earlier remarks made during a visit to Silvassa, the Prime Minister cited Singapore as an example of how a small region can evolve into a global business hub through vision-driven development. He said that Singapore, once a modest fishing settlement, transformed itself through strong planning, ambition and consistent execution of development policies. According to him, similar aspirations are now visible in the Union Territory.
Modi said that Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are also “dreaming the same dream” of becoming a modern and economically vibrant region. He emphasised that ongoing infrastructure investments are laying the foundation for long-term economic expansion, improved connectivity and enhanced quality of life for residents across the Union Territory.

He highlighted several ongoing and proposed projects, including NAMO Airport, an iconic bridge over the Daman Ganga River, beachfront development initiatives and a convention centre. These projects, he said, are expected to improve transportation, promote tourism and generate new business opportunities on both sides of the river, contributing to the region’s overall development.
The Prime Minister noted that key sectors such as hospitality, tourism, trade and logistics are likely to benefit significantly from these infrastructure upgrades. He said improved connectivity and urban development would not only attract investment but also create employment opportunities, particularly for young people in the region.
Modi further stressed that strategic and sustained investment is essential for transforming smaller regions into competitive economic centres. He said that with the right mix of planning, infrastructure development and policy support, the Union Territory can emerge as a strong tourism and business destination, aligning with the government’s broader vision of infrastructure-led growth and regional development.
