PM Modi in Assam: Rs 19,680 Crore Projects Unveiled, Tea Workers Receive Land Pattas
PM Modi launches massive Assam projects covering energy, railways, and tea worker welfare.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation for development projects worth around ₹19,680 crore during a visit to Assam. The initiatives focus largely on infrastructure, energy and connectivity in the Northeast region. During the programme in Guwahati, the prime minister also launched the distribution of land ownership documents, or pattas, to tea garden workers in Assam and released the 22nd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, benefiting more than 9.3 crore farmers across the country.
As part of efforts to improve housing security for tea plantation workers, the government began the first phase of distributing land pattas to workers living in housing lines across 106 tea gardens in 20 districts of Assam. Officials said secure land ownership is expected to improve access to welfare schemes, institutional credit and social security benefits for the tea garden community. Under the PM-KISAN programme, eligible farmers received ₹2,000 directly into their bank accounts as part of the latest instalment of the income support scheme.
Several major energy and infrastructure projects were also inaugurated or launched during the event. These included the Kopili Hydroelectric Project, built at a cost of more than ₹2,300 crore to boost clean energy production in the state. The prime minister also dedicated the capacity enhancement project of the Numaligarh-Siliguri Product Pipeline, which will support the expansion of Numaligarh Refinery Limited and improve petroleum product transportation across the region.

Other projects announced included the first phase of the North East Gas Grid connecting Guwahati with several cities across the Northeast, along with multiple railway electrification and track expansion projects. The prime minister also laid the foundation for new cruise terminals on the Brahmaputra River, a regional maritime training centre at Bogibeel, and inaugurated the PM Ekta Mall in Guwahati, designed to promote handicrafts, GI-tagged products and local industries. Officials said the projects aim to strengthen connectivity, energy infrastructure and economic development in Assam and the wider Northeast region.
