PM Modi Honors Sikh Heritage During Visit to Takhat Patna Sahib
Prime Minister’s sacred visit honors Sikh legacy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib on Sunday evening, immediately drawing admiration with his striking orange turban that symbolized respect and cultural affinity. Accompanied by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, he entered the hallowed premises and offered prayers with profound devotion and solemnity. Devotees filled the air with enthusiastic chants of “Jo boley so nihal,” responding to Modi’s warm greetings as he collected prasad from the counter, embodying humility and grace in the revered sanctuary, which stands as one of the five paramount takhats in Sikhism, a testament to its spiritual eminence.
The focal point of the visit was Modi’s darshan of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’—the venerated footwear of Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Sahib Kaur—which had been transported ceremonially from Delhi earlier that day in a procession of great significance. These sacred relics, meticulously preserved for over three centuries by Minister Puri’s family before being transferred to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, arrived in Patna amid the expansive Guru Charan Yatra. In his post on X, Modi described the occasion as a “divine experience,” extolling the timeless teachings of the Sikh Gurus on courage, justice, and humanitarian values that perpetually guide and uplift societies worldwide.
Patna Sahib occupies a position of immense historical and religious importance as the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, who was born there in 1666 and spent his formative years before proceeding to Anandpur Sahib. The gurdwara’s construction was commissioned in the 18th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh to eternally commemorate this sacred site. Modi extended an earnest invitation to citizens across the nation to journey to Patna and receive blessings from the ‘Jore Sahib,’ emphasizing how the yatra exemplified inclusivity and fostered unity among people from diverse backgrounds and faiths.
Earlier in the day, under comprehensive security measures, Modi addressed enthusiastic election rallies in Arrah and Nawada, subsequently leading a grand roadshow through the streets of Patna that attracted vast crowds. During his speech in Arrah, he vehemently criticized the Congress party for its handling of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, alleging that it continued to protect those responsible while showing no contrition for the tragic events. This pointed reference underscored a contrast in approaches to historical accountability.
By seamlessly integrating elements of faith, historical reverence, and political discourse, Modi’s visit strengthened his longstanding association with Sikh traditions and heritage, all while advancing his campaign objectives in Bihar. The event concluded on a note of enduring impact, projecting an image of sincere piety combined with resolute leadership that resonated deeply with attendees and observers alike.
