PM Modi Honors Heroes of Quit India Movement

PM hails courage that ignited India’s freedom struggle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid heartfelt tributes to the participants of the Quit India movement on the 83rd anniversary of its launch, recalling their bravery and the unity they inspired in India’s fight for independence.

In a message shared on social media, the prime minister said, “We remember with deep gratitude all those brave people who, under the inspiring leadership of Bapu, took part in the Quit India Movement. Their courage lit a spark of patriotism that united countless people in the quest for freedom.”

The Quit India movement, launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942, marked a turning point in the independence struggle, with the call for the British to leave India immediately. The campaign saw widespread protests, strikes, and acts of civil disobedience across the country, despite brutal crackdowns by the colonial authorities.

The movement’s impact was such that the British government arrested almost the entire leadership of the Congress, including Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Yet, the nationwide call for freedom could not be silenced, and the spirit of resistance only grew stronger.

By remembering the sacrifices of the Quit India participants, Modi underscored the enduring relevance of their courage and determination qualities, he said, that continue to inspire generations in building a stronger and more self-reliant India.
