PM Modi Heads to Assam to Launch Amrit Bharat Trains and Kaziranga Corridor

PM Modi to visit Assam on January 17-18 to flag off Amrit Bharat trains and lay foundation for Kaziranga elevated corridor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam from January 17 for a two-day tour, during which he will flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains and lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga elevated corridor. The visit marks his second trip to the northeastern state in less than a month, underlining the strategic focus on Assam ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

On the evening of January 17, Modi will witness a grand Bodo folk dance performance, ‘Bagurumba,’ featuring 10,000 performers at the Arjun Bhogeswar Barua Sports Stadium in Guwahati. The cultural showcase is expected to highlight Assam’s rich heritage and traditions during his visit.

The following day, the PM will travel to Kaliabor to lay the foundation stone for the Rs 6,957-crore Kaziranga elevated corridor, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and supporting tourism near the Kaziranga National Park. Modi is also scheduled to virtually flag off the Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and Kamakhya-Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express trains.

During his stay, Modi will address a public meeting at Kaliabor, where he is expected to highlight developmental projects and initiatives undertaken by the central government in Assam. His visit follows a December 2025 trip, where he inaugurated the new Guwahati airport terminal and unveiled the statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi.

The prime minister’s repeated visits underscore Assam’s political importance ahead of the upcoming elections, while simultaneously showcasing large-scale infrastructure and connectivity projects aimed at fostering economic growth in the region.
