PM Modi Hails Swami Vivekananda as Powerful Inspiration for Youth on 164th Birth Anniversary

PM Modi and other leaders pay tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his 164th birth anniversary and National Youth Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid heartfelt tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his 164th birth anniversary, observed nationwide as National Youth Day. Describing the revered monk as a “powerful source of inspiration for India’s youth,” the Prime Minister said Vivekananda’s life and teachings continue to energise the country’s resolve towards building a developed India.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi highlighted Swami Vivekananda’s enduring influence on young minds. He expressed hope that National Youth Day would instil renewed confidence, strength, and self-belief among citizens, especially the younger generation, encouraging them to actively contribute to India’s progress and transformation.

President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to the spiritual leader, calling him a timeless visionary who carried India’s eternal wisdom to the global stage. She emphasised that Swami Vivekananda’s teachings on inner strength, service to humanity, and national pride continue to inspire generations and remain relevant in today’s world.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his greetings on the occasion, recalling Swami Vivekananda’s role in connecting Indian youth with the nation’s philosophical and spiritual heritage. He credited Vivekananda and the Ramakrishna Mission with establishing enduring ideals of social service and motivating youth to pursue their goals with determination and patriotism.

National Youth Day is celebrated every year on January 12 to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s birth and honour his unwavering faith in the potential of young people. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports noted that his vision remains a guiding force for youth-led nation-building initiatives across the country.

Born as Narendranath Datta, Swami Vivekananda was a key figure in the revival of Hindu philosophy in the late 19th century. His historic address at the 1893 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago brought global recognition to Indian spirituality and reshaped international understanding of Hinduism, cementing his legacy as one of India’s greatest thinkers.
