Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his landmark visit to Ethiopia by highlighting the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, marking a pivotal advancement in ties rooted in shared history and mutual respect. During wide-ranging talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali in Addis Ababa, the leaders oversaw the exchange of key agreements aimed at fostering cooperation across multiple sectors.

The signed Memoranda of Understanding covered cooperation in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Training, Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters, and the establishment of a Data Centre at Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additional announcements included debt restructuring under the G20 framework, doubled scholarships for Ethiopian students under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, specialised short-term Artificial Intelligence courses, and enhanced support for maternal and neonatal healthcare initiatives.

In a statement on X, Prime Minister Modi described these developments as significant steps in a longstanding partnership focused on people-centric growth. He emphasised collaboration in governance, digital capacity building, education, innovation, and healthcare, underscoring a shared commitment to empowering youth and addressing vulnerabilities through human dignity.

Modi also expressed gratitude for Ethiopia's firm support in combating terrorism in all forms, as noted in a Ministry of External Affairs briefing. The visit featured Modi receiving Ethiopia's highest honour, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia, making him the first global head of state to be bestowed with this award.

Following the bilateral engagements, Modi is scheduled to address the Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament, sharing insights on India's democratic journey and the broader implications for the Global South, before proceeding to Oman for the final leg of his three-nation tour.
