PM Modi meets Zelenskyy, reaffirms India’s commitment to peace and cooperation dialogue
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening India-Ukraine relations, expanding economic cooperation, and supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The meeting comes at a time when global powers continue to navigate shifting alignments in the aftermath of the war, with both leaders emphasising the importance of sustained dialogue. The discussions focused on reviewing the current state of bilateral engagement and identifying areas where cooperation can be further expanded, particularly in trade and economic exchange.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on X that India and Ukraine have been engaging extensively in recent times, with visible progress across multiple areas of cooperation. He noted that the talks provided an opportunity to assess different aspects of the bilateral relationship and explore ways to strengthen it further in the coming months.

Modi also highlighted the need to restore trade ties to pre-war levels, underlining the economic disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict. He reiterated India’s position on the war, stating that New Delhi “will always be on the side of peace,” and emphasised that India places “the values of humanity above everything else” in its approach to international disputes.
The Ukrainian side, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is understood to have welcomed continued engagement with India as part of broader efforts to maintain international support and expand diplomatic outreach. The talks reflect Kyiv’s ongoing push to strengthen ties with key global partners while seeking pathways toward a negotiated resolution of the conflict.
The meeting also underscores India’s balancing role in global geopolitics, as it maintains relations with both Russia and Western-aligned nations while consistently advocating for dialogue and diplomatic solutions. Analysts view the engagement as part of New Delhi’s broader effort to position itself as a voice for peace and economic stability amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
