PM Modi Directs Creation of ‘Blue Book’ to Document Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project
PM urges recording experiences for future high-speed projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mandated that engineers and technical staff engaged in the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project systematically compile their on-ground experiences into a detailed reference document, tentatively referred to as a 'Blue Book'. Delivered during an extensive on-site interaction with project teams in Surat on Saturday, this directive aims to create a replicable blueprint that accelerates the nationwide rollout of bullet train networks without redundant trial-and-error phases.
Modi articulated that effective replication hinges on a profound comprehension of decision-making processes—why specific methodologies were adopted, challenges encountered, and solutions implemented—warning that superficial copying devoid of contextual insight could lead to inefficient outcomes. He envisioned these documented insights serving as foundational educational material for engineering students and a strategic asset in India's broader quest for advanced transportation infrastructure, ultimately fostering a legacy of knowledge-driven nation-building.
Project personnel affirmed to the Prime Minister that the 508-kilometre corridor is progressing without significant impediments, adhering closely to established timelines and quality benchmarks. A female engineer hailing from Kerala recounted her contributions at the state-of-the-art Noise Barrier Factory in Navsari, Gujarat, where automated robotic systems perform precision welding of rebar cages, symbolizing the integration of global best practices; she conveyed immense personal and familial pride in participating in what she termed a "dream project" marking India's entry into high-speed rail era.

Shruti, the Lead Engineering Manager based out of Bengaluru, elaborated on the project's uncompromising design and execution protocols, which entail rigorous multi-stage assessments encompassing risk analysis, alternative explorations, and optimization strategies to achieve zero-defect standards. Drawing an inspirational analogy to India's space program—evoking the pioneering emotions of scientists launching the nation's first satellite and contrasting it with today's routine multi-satellite deployments—Modi underscored how a sense of national contribution ignites unparalleled motivation among professionals.
Spanning 352 kilometres in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli alongside 156 kilometres in Maharashtra, the corridor incorporates 465 kilometres of elevated viaducts (constituting 85 percent of the route) to minimize environmental footprint and enhance operational safety, with 326 kilometres of viaduct construction already accomplished and 17 of 25 river bridges completed. Upon commissioning, the service will compress Mumbai-Ahmedabad travel to under two hours, catalyzing economic synergies, tourism influx, and industrial growth across interconnected urban centers including Sabarmati, Vadodara, Surat, and Thane.
