PM Modi Calls for Peace and Promises Prosperity during Manipur Visit

In a powerful address during his first visit to Manipur since the ethnic violence erupted in May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for unity and urged all groups to abandon violence, pledging to transform the state into a beacon of peace and prosperity. Speaking at a public rally in the Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district, Modi emphasized the Central Government’s unwavering support for the people of Manipur and its relentless efforts to restore harmony.

“It is unfortunate that violence occurred here. Today, I assure you that the Government of India stands with you, and I personally stand with you,” Modi declared, addressing a large gathering. He highlighted the Centre’s ongoing peace initiatives, which have facilitated dialogues between conflicting communities, fostering hope for reconciliation. “I appeal to all groups and organizations to embrace the path of peace,” he added, underscoring that peace is the foundation for progress.

Modi outlined his government’s commitment to Manipur’s development, noting significant increases in budget allocations for railway and road connectivity projects since 2014. “India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy, and I am determined to ensure that every corner of the country, including Manipur, reaps the benefits of this growth,” he said. The Prime Minister also inaugurated projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore, aimed at enhancing infrastructure, healthcare, and opportunities, particularly for the tribal communities in Manipur’s hill regions.

Reflecting on his journey from Imphal to Churachandpur, Modi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and shared his interactions with displaced individuals. “I see a new dawn for Manipur. The people have chosen peace,” he said, exuding optimism about the state’s future. Hailing Manipur as a land of courage and valor, he emphasized that the newly unveiled projects would significantly improve the quality of life for residents.

The rally, marked by enthusiastic crowds, underscored Modi’s vision of a united and progressive Manipur. As the state looks to heal from past conflicts, the Prime Minister’s visit and promises signal a renewed focus on development and reconciliation, with the Centre committed to ensuring lasting peace and prosperity for all.
