PM Modi Calls Bihar’s Record Voter Turnout A ‘Huge Shock’ To Opposition Ahead Of Phase 2

PM Modi calls Bihar’s record 65.08% voter turnout a massive blow to opposition in phase one.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday described Bihar’s highest-ever voter turnout of 65.08% in the first phase of assembly elections as a “zor ka jhatka” (huge shock) to the opposition, signaling strong public endorsement of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Speaking at a rally in Sitamarhi, Modi said the opposition leaders were losing sleep over the unexpectedly high participation, crediting the turnout as a clear vote of trust in the NDA’s vision for Bihar’s development.

The first phase saw enthusiastic voting from over 3.7 crore eligible electors, including a significant turnout of women and first-time voters. Modi contrasted the NDA’s focus on promoting startups, jobs, education, and sports with the opposition’s alleged strategy of fear and intimidation. He criticized the INDIA bloc for purportedly threatening voters with “katta” (country-made guns), urging people to reject violence and bullying in politics.

Modi specifically pointed to recent opposition campaigns that he claimed encouraged a culture of street bullying among children and warned Bihar against the return of “jungle raj” (lawlessness) reminiscent of prior regimes. He emphasized that voters desire progress and peace over threats and disruption.

With the second phase of polling scheduled for November 11 and results awaited on November 14, Modi’s remarks sought to reinforce confidence in the NDA’s prospects amidst stiff opposition. The Prime Minister’s rally underscored the importance of democratic participation as a reflection of people’s aspirations for Bihar’s future.

The record voter turnout surpasses previous benchmarks and marks a milestone in Bihar’s electoral history, generating speculation about the potential political realignment and transforming voter engagement across the state.
