PM Modi at WAVES Summit: ‘Create in India, Create for the World’

Speaking at the event, Modi stressed the importance of balancing technological advancement with human sensitivity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the first-ever World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), positioning it as a milestone moment for India's creative economy and global storytelling ambitions.

Speaking at the event, Modi said the time is ripe for a “Create in India, Create for the World” movement, highlighting the country's potential to become a global hub for storytelling, content creation, and cultural innovation. “The world is searching for new ways to tell stories, and India has much to offer,” he said.

The prime minister stressed the importance of balancing technological advancement with human sensitivity. “Humans should not be turned into robots. We need to make them more sensitive,” he said, underlining the role of “creative responsibility” in shaping content that reflects empathy and ethics.

Modi also urged protection of the younger generation from anti-humanity ideologies, a statement that comes amid rising concerns over harmful online content. His comments follow the Supreme Court’s recent move to seek the government’s response on regulating controversial digital material.

Referring to India’s expanding global influence, he said the WAVES summit would serve as a launchpad for international talent and creativity. “Like Indian khana (food), I am confident Indian gaana (music) will also gain global popularity,” he remarked.

Modi added, “Even though the screen size is getting smaller, the scope is becoming infinite,” pointing to the power of mobile storytelling and digital reach.

The WAVES summit brings together global creators, startups, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore the convergence of film, OTT, gaming, music, AI, and emerging technologies. With a vision to unlock a $50 billion entertainment economy by 2029, the summit aims to position India at the heart of the global media and entertainment landscape.
