PM Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh Extend Onam, Milad-un-Nabi Greetings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended greetings to citizens on Wednesday on the occasions of Onam and Milad-un-Nabi. The leaders wished people happiness, peace, prosperity and harmony, highlighting the festivals’ messages of togetherness and compassion. Several other Union ministers and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also conveyed their greetings and shared messages of goodwill.

PM Modi extended separate greetings for the two occasions through posts on X. Wishing people a joyful Onam, he described it as a vibrant festival celebrated with enthusiasm across the world and expressed hope that it would strengthen the spirit of happiness, togetherness and prosperity. In his message on Milad-un-Nabi, he conveyed Eid greetings and said he hoped the occasion would promote togetherness and joy while encouraging kindness and service to society.

Amit Shah also greeted people on Onam and wished peace, prosperity and well-being for the people of Kerala. Rajnath Singh extended greetings on both occasions, describing Onam as a celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and traditions. He said the harvest festival brings people together and promotes unity and harmony, while also reflecting gratitude towards nature. Singh also wished people peace and prosperity on Milad-un-Nabi and emphasised the importance of harmony and compassion in society.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended Onam greetings to people in Delhi and across the country, wishing peace, prosperity and happiness for every household. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also wished people a happy and prosperous Onam, hoping the festival would bring happiness, abundance, joy and peace. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan prayed for good harvests and prosperity for farmers, while also extending greetings on Eid Milad-un-Nabi and wishing people happiness, peace and harmony.

President Droupadi Murmu had also extended greetings to citizens on Tuesday on the eve of Onam and Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. In her Onam message, she highlighted Kerala’s cultural traditions and the festival’s emphasis on brotherhood and unity in diversity. She also noted the festival’s connection with nature and the new harvest. On Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, she said the occasion offers an opportunity to remember the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and expressed hope that his ideals would inspire people to contribute towards building an inclusive and developed India.

Onam is a major ten-day harvest festival celebrated primarily in Kerala and is associated with the annual homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. The celebrations culminate with Thiruvonam, the tenth and most significant day of the festival. Traditions include wearing new clothes, preparing floral decorations known as Pookkalam and serving the traditional vegetarian Onasadya on banana leaves. Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Eid-e-Milad, commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad and is observed by Muslims with religious and community activities.
