PM Modi, Amit Shah Discuss Party Rejig And Cabinet Expansion In High-Level Meeting

Leadership discusses BJP rejig and cabinet reshuffle plans.

Speculation over a major organisational reshuffle in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh late on Wednesday evening. The discussions, which reportedly lasted for several hours, have fuelled expectations that the party could soon unveil a new team of central office-bearers and possibly announce changes to the Union Cabinet.

The meeting came just a day before Prime Minister Modi's scheduled visit to Punjab on July 17 and shortly after his return from an overseas tour. It also followed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's meeting with Amit Shah earlier this week, where preparations for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and organisational matters were reportedly discussed. The sequence of meetings has added to speculation that the BJP leadership is preparing for a broader organisational overhaul ahead of key political contests.

According to sources, Wednesday's meeting focused on giving final approval to the BJP's revamped central organisational structure under the leadership of newly appointed party president Nitin Nabin. Several rounds of internal consultations on appointments and restructuring have already taken place over the past few weeks. However, the final round of discussions with the Prime Minister had reportedly been delayed due to his international engagements.

Political observers believe the new organisational team could be announced as early as this week. The BJP is expected to appoint new office-bearers across various positions as part of an effort to strengthen the party's organisational machinery ahead of a series of Assembly elections and other political challenges. While the party has not officially confirmed the timing of the announcement, the prolonged meeting at the Prime Minister's residence has reinforced expectations that key decisions have been finalised.

Alongside the anticipated organisational changes, speculation continues over a possible reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers. Although there has been no official confirmation that the Cabinet was discussed during the meeting, political circles have been abuzz with reports that the government could make changes aimed at improving governance, balancing regional representation and preparing for upcoming electoral battles. Any Cabinet expansion or reshuffle would be the first significant reorganisation since Nitin Nabin assumed charge as BJP president.

The developments also come just ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on July 20 and continue until August 13. The BJP is expected to finalise both its organisational and parliamentary strategy before the session, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to hold a meeting of its constituents to coordinate its legislative agenda and floor management. The leadership meetings over the past few days are being viewed as part of the party's broader preparations for both governance and electoral priorities in the months ahead.
