Plea Against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi In National Herald Case Listed For Hearing Today

Court set to hear plea against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in National Herald case.

A court in the national capital is scheduled to hear a plea on Tuesday against senior Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in connection with the long-running National Herald case, a matter that has remained politically sensitive and legally complex for over a decade.

The hearing pertains to allegations linked to the acquisition of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the publisher of the now-defunct National Herald newspaper, by Young Indian Pvt Ltd — a company in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are among the principal stakeholders. The plea before the court seeks further action in the case, raising questions over financial transactions and the transfer of assets.

The National Herald case originated from a complaint filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who alleged misappropriation of funds and irregularities in the manner in which AJL’s assets were acquired. The Congress party has consistently denied wrongdoing, maintaining that the transaction was aimed at reviving a financially struggling publication with historical significance.

Legal proceedings in the case have seen multiple developments over the years, including summons issued to the Gandhis and other Congress leaders. The matter has also witnessed arguments over jurisdiction, procedural validity, and the interpretation of company and property laws, contributing to its prolonged trajectory through the judicial system.

The Congress has repeatedly described the case as politically motivated, accusing the ruling establishment of using investigative agencies to target opposition leaders. On the other hand, complainants have argued that the case involves serious financial impropriety that warrants thorough judicial scrutiny.

Tuesday’s hearing is expected to focus on the maintainability of the plea and whether additional directions are required from the court. The outcome could influence the next phase of proceedings in a case that continues to draw national attention at the intersection of law and politics.
