Pitbull Attacks Couple In Punjab, Woman Seriously Injured In On-Camera Incident

A couple suffered multiple injuries after they were attacked by a Pitbull dog in Ghuman Nagar, Patiala, on Tuesday evening, with purported CCTV footage of the incident circulating on social media. The woman suffered severe injuries to her arm and other parts of her body and required surgery, according to the information available. The incident occurred when Ankit Sabharwal and his wife Shifali, residents of Patiala, had gone to Ghuman Nagar with a property dealer to view a house for rent. During their visit, the couple was attacked by the dog.

The circumstances that led to the animal attacking them were not immediately clear. Purported CCTV footage of the incident has since emerged on social media. The footage reportedly captures the attack and has drawn attention to the couple's injuries and the risks posed by aggressive dogs in residential neighbourhoods. The video could not independently establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The woman sustained particularly serious injuries, with the Pitbull severely mauling her arm and other parts of her body. The wounds were deep and required surgical treatment.

The extent of the injuries has renewed concerns about the potential danger posed by aggressive dog breeds when they are not adequately restrained or controlled. Reacting to the incident, Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia said keeping aggressive dog breeds as pets would be banned in the city. He said the matter would be taken up during a House meeting of the municipal corporation, where a special resolution could be considered regarding the proposed restriction. The Mayor's statement comes amid recurring concerns over incidents involving dog attacks and the safety of residents in urban areas.
