Parvesh and I have 'Brother-Sister' Bond, CM Chair Inconsequential, says Rekha Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized her “brother-sister” bond with cabinet colleague Parvesh Verma, son of late CM Sahib Singh Verma, during a tribute event on his 82nd birth anniversary at Mundka. Gupta, who took office after the BJP’s February 5 victory over the Aam Aadmi Party, ending its 10-year reign, said the chief minister’s title was secondary to their shared mission. “It doesn’t matter who’s CM—Parvesh could’ve been chief minister and I a minister; it’d be the same,” she remarked, likening her role to an elder sister’s duty in Indian tradition.

Joined by Parvesh at the memorial, Gupta pledged to fulfill Sahib Singh’s vision for Delhi, a leader she credits as her guiding force. She recalled his encouragement when she became DUSU president during his 1996-1998 tenure as CM. “We’ll work as siblings to complete his unfinished dreams,” she said, celebrating one Verma child as CM and another as minister.

Parvesh, once a CM contender after the BJP’s February 8 win, echoed her sentiment, stressing long-term development. “Our goal is projects that benefit Delhi for 50 years, not just five,” he said, honoring his father’s legacy. Sahib Singh, born in 1943 in Mundka, died in 2007 at 64, leaving a lasting imprint on the capital. Gupta and Verma’s unity signals a cohesive BJP front as they steer Delhi forward after 26 years out of power.
