Parliament Braces for Explosive Debate on Pahalgam Attack, Operation Sindoor
Fiery Parliament clash over terror, security!
After a week of disruptions, Parliament’s Monsoon session is set for a heated debate starting Monday, focusing on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The BJP-led NDA and Opposition are ready to clash over national security and foreign policy. Heavyweights like Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will defend the government’s actions, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to underscore India’s firm anti-terrorism stance. Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Akhilesh Yadav will challenge alleged intelligence failures and foreign policy missteps.
The 16-hour debate in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will see NDA fielding members like Shrikant Shinde and Sanjay Jha, who joined global delegations post-Operation Sindoor. A key question lingers: will Congress deploy Shashi Tharoor, whose support for the government’s response strained party ties? The Opposition has criticized intelligence lapses in the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians, and questioned India’s global backing for Operation Sindoor, citing US President Trump’s mediation claims, which the government has dismissed.
Modi has hailed Operation Sindoor, targeting terror sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, as a complete success, showcasing India’s indigenous defense capabilities. The operation, following the Pahalgam attack, led to a four-day conflict, with India claiming significant damage to Pakistani air bases. Modi’s “new normal” in combating terrorism, including suspending the Indus Waters Agreement, has been a focal point for the NDA’s narrative.

Meanwhile, the Opposition’s push for a debate on Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which stalled Parliament earlier, remains unresolved. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that not all issues can be discussed simultaneously, with a decision on SIR pending.
