Pakistan's Daughter, India's Daughter-in-Law! Will Seema Haider Be Deported?

Seema Haider Pleads to Stay in India: “I’m India’s Daughter-in-Law Now”

Seema Haider, the Pakistani woman who captured headlines in 2023 for illegally entering India to marry her lover Sachin Meena, is now gripped by fear of deportation following India’s suspension of visa services for Pakistani nationals.

In an emotional video circulating on social media, Haider declared, “I was Pakistan’s daughter, but now I’m India’s daughter-in-law,” appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to let her remain in India.

Haider’s journey began when she left Karachi in May 2023, crossing into India via Nepal with her four children from a previous marriage in Sindh, Pakistan. She married Meena, a Greater Noida resident, after connecting with him through online gaming in 2019.

Claiming to have embraced Hinduism, Haider recently gave birth to their daughter, Bharti Meena. “I appeal to Modi ji and Yogi ji that I am in their refuge now. I was Pakistan’s daughter but now I’m the daughter-in-law of India. Let me stay here,” she pleaded in the video.

The couple’s life in Rabupura, Gautam Buddha Nagar, faces uncertainty after India’s retaliatory measures against Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. On Wednesday, a Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Modi, suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals, with the Ministry of External Affairs announcing that all valid visas will be canceled by April 27.

Medical visas remain valid until April 29, and Pakistani nationals in India must leave before their visas expire.

Haider’s lawyer, Advocate AP Singh, remains optimistic, arguing she is exempt from the directive. “Seema is no longer a Pakistani national. She married Sachin Meena, a resident of Greater Noida, and recently gave birth to their daughter, Bharti Meena.

Her citizenship is now connected with her Indian husband, and therefore the Centre’s directive should not apply to her,” Singh told PTI on Thursday.
