Pakistani Delegation Meets Tehran Officials As US Eyes Iran Peace Deal

Pakistan mediates fresh talks as US remains optimistic on Iran deal.

The United States has expressed optimism about reaching a peace agreement with Iran, even as diplomatic efforts intensify with a Pakistani delegation engaging Iranian officials in Tehran to revive stalled negotiations.

Officials in Washington indicated that discussions with Tehran are ongoing and that there is cautious confidence about the prospects of a deal, despite recent setbacks. The negotiations come amid a fragile ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, which is set to expire soon, increasing pressure on all sides to find a diplomatic resolution.

Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the process, with senior representatives travelling to Tehran to carry messages between the two sides and explore possibilities for a renewed round of talks. The diplomatic push follows earlier negotiations held in Islamabad, which ended without a breakthrough but kept communication channels open.

The talks face significant hurdles, particularly over Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security concerns. The United States has reportedly pushed for long-term restrictions on uranium enrichment, while Iran has sought more limited commitments, reflecting deep divisions that continue to complicate progress.

Adding to the complexity, tensions remain high across the region, including continued military activity involving Israel and Iran-backed groups. These developments have raised concerns about the durability of any ceasefire and the broader stability of the Middle East if negotiations fail.

Despite these challenges, diplomatic efforts are continuing, with indications that further rounds of talks could take place in Pakistan. Observers note that while a final agreement remains uncertain, sustained engagement and mediation efforts may still pave the way for a negotiated settlement in the coming days.
