Pakistan Now Epicenter of Terror; Their Citizens Deserve Better: PM Modi

PM Modi Urges Pakistan to Abandon Terror Path in Strong Rebuke

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stern message to Pakistan on Saturday, labeling it the “epicentre of terror” and urging it to abandon its role in sponsoring terrorism for the sake of its people and global peace.

In a candid interview with US podcaster Lex Fridman, Modi asserted that terror trails worldwide—exemplified by Osama bin Laden’s refuge in Pakistan post-9/11—consistently lead back to its neighbor. “Today, it stands as an epicentre of terror, not just for India but for the world,” he said.

Modi pressed Pakistan to rethink its strategy, asking, “What do you hope to gain by surrendering your nation to lawless forces?”

He emphasized that its citizens deserve a future free of violence, adding, “We sincerely hope that wisdom prevails upon them and they choose the path of peace.” Reflecting on India’s efforts, he recalled inviting then-Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif to his 2014 swearing-in and his 2015 Lahore visit, only to face “hostility and betrayal.” “Every noble attempt at fostering peace was met with hostility,” he lamented.

The PM’s remarks underscore India’s long-standing accusation that Pakistan harbors and supports terror groups, a charge Islamabad denies, amid decades of strained ties exacerbated by attacks like 9/11 and incidents in Kashmir. Modi’s call blends firm criticism with a plea for course correction, highlighting the global stakes of Pakistan’s choices.
