Renowned cancer researcher Dr Nori Dattatreyudu said on Monday that receiving the Padma Bhushan award is not just an honor but a challenge that strengthens his resolve to combat cancer across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and India. Speaking at Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital in Banjara Hills, he expressed pride in the national recognition of his global contributions to oncology.
Dr Nori, who has earned numerous international accolades, highlighted that the national award carries a special significance. “This motivates me to intensify my efforts against the cancer epidemic in the two Telugu states and beyond,” he said, emphasizing the urgency of public awareness and preventive healthcare.
The award-winning oncologist revealed that the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have endorsed his roadmap for cancer prevention. “I feel personally responsible for executing this plan. My goal is to eradicate certain preventable cancers within six to seven years while reducing the incidence of others through education and awareness,” he added.

On the occasion, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Chairman of Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI), felicitated Dr Nori. Several dignitaries, including JSR Prasad, a Trust board member, and CEO Dr K. Krishnaiah, attended the event, celebrating the achievement of one of India’s leading cancer specialists.
Adding a remarkable highlight to Republic Day celebrations, over 75 patients treated with artificial larynxes at the hospital united to sing the National Anthem. This feat was certified by the London-based World Book of Records as a global first, marking a symbolic triumph of resilience and medical innovation.
Dr Nori thanked the Government of India for the Padma Bhushan, stating that the honor reinforces his lifelong mission. “This award is not just a personal milestone; it’s a call to action. Cancer prevention and treatment must reach every corner of India, and I am committed to making that a reality,” he concluded.
