Over 3.25 Lakh Child Abuse Cases Resolved by Fast-Track Courts, Centre Reports

The Women and Child Development Ministry announced on Friday that 746 fast-track special courts (FTSCs), including 405 dedicated Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) courts, have successfully disposed of over 3.25 lakh cases of rape and child sexual abuse as of April 30, 2025. These courts, operational across 30 states and Union territories, were established to accelerate trials in such cases, the ministry informed the Lok Sabha in a written response.
Uttar Pradesh topped the list with nearly 90,000 case disposals, followed by Madhya Pradesh with over 31,000 and Kerala with more than 25,000, according to data presented by Minister of State Savitri Thakur.
In a separate response, Thakur highlighted efforts to enhance child welfare, noting that 2 lakh Anganwadi centres are approved for upgradation into 'Saksham Anganwadis' to improve nutrition and early childhood education. To support women, 14,658 women help desks (WHDs) have been established at police stations, with 13,743 led by female officers to ensure a more approachable environment.

Additionally, the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), operational in all 36 states and Union territories, has handled over 43 crore calls, providing aid in various emergencies. The dedicated Women Helpline (WHL-181), integrated with ERSS and active in 35 states and Union territories except West Bengal, has managed over 2.10 crore calls and assisted more than 84.43 lakh women in distress, Thakur stated.
These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to addressing child abuse and supporting women through expedited justice and accessible support systems.
