Opposition Protests SIR Voter Roll in Parliament
Leaders slam EC move, call it democracy's betrayal.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with a united INDIA bloc, staged a fierce protest at the Parliament complex on Friday, marking the ninth consecutive day of agitation against the Election Commission’s controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar.
Joined by leaders from the DMK, TMC, Left, and other opposition parties, Kharge and Priyanka stood in front of a massive banner reading “SIR – Loktantra Pe Vaar” (“Attack on Democracy”), raising slogans and holding placards that demanded the rollback of the revision exercise.
The opposition alleges that the SIR is a strategic attempt by the Election Commission—under pressure from the central government—to disenfranchise targeted sections of voters ahead of Bihar’s upcoming Assembly elections. Protesters also carried posters accusing the EC of colluding with the ruling government.

Despite repeated demands, the government has so far refused to initiate a discussion on the matter in either House of Parliament, further fueling opposition outrage.
With the protest gaining momentum and lasting over a week, it’s clear the opposition has no plans to back down until the SIR is scrapped and a full debate is allowed in both Houses.
