Operation Kavach 9.0: Delhi Cops Bust 92 Drug Lords in Mega Raid

In a massive pre-Independence Day crackdown, Delhi Police arrested 92 narco-offenders and seized drugs worth lakhs, along with cash and weapons, during a 24-hour operation dubbed "Operation Kavach 9.0," a senior official announced Monday. The blitz, aimed at dismantling drug networks, underscores the city’s resolve to curb the narcotics trade threatening its youth.
Launched at 5 pm on August 9 and concluding the next evening, the operation mobilized 360 police teams from the Crime Branch, Special Cell, and district units to raid 794 locations across Delhi’s 15 districts. The sweep resulted in 87 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with seizures including 307 grams of heroin, over 33 kilograms of ganja, 610 grams of charas, 22.25 grams of MDMA, 2.26 grams of LSD, and Rs 12.17 lakh in cash.
Beyond drugs, the operation tackled other crimes, netting 275 excise cases with 279 arrests and over 50,000 liquor quarters confiscated. Under the Arms Act, 65 individuals were arrested, with police recovering four semi-automatic pistols, nine country-made pistols, nine live cartridges, and 41 knives. Additionally, 83 people were detained in 48 gambling cases, with Rs 1.19 lakh seized.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastva emphasized the operation’s focus on disrupting both street-level peddlers and high-level traffickers. Preventive actions included detaining over 12,800 individuals under the Delhi Police Act, taking 1,858 into custody, and checking 227 known “bad characters.”
“The goal is to dismantle drug networks and shield our youth from addiction,” Srivastva said, urging families and communities to help reduce demand. Local residents praised the effort but called for sustained action to ensure Delhi remains safe from the growing drug menace.
