Body Of Man Swept Away In Hyderabad Drain Recovered From Musi River

Arjun’s body was found 65 km away; the search continues for other missing persons.

The body of a 25-year-old man who was swept away in a flooded drainage canal during heavy rains in Hyderabad on September 14 was recovered on Thursday, about 65 km away in the Musi River in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, police said. The deceased, identified as Arjun, had gone missing along with a relative when sudden floodwaters surged through the Afzalsagar area of the city.

Following the incident, rescue teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and the police launched a multi-agency search operation. Despite extensive efforts, the two men could not be located immediately, prompting their family members to lodge a missing complaint. The operations continued across adjoining districts as floodwaters carried debris downstream.

On Thursday, locals in Valigonda spotted a body floating in the Musi River. Police later confirmed it to be Arjun’s remains, which were in a decomposed state. His family was informed and formally identified him. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to relatives for last rites.

Meanwhile, search operations remain underway to trace others reported missing in similar incidents during the recent spell of heavy rains in Hyderabad. Among them is Arjun’s relative, who is feared to have been washed away in another nala in the Musheerabad area on the same day. Officials said teams are continuing their efforts along vulnerable stretches of the Musi River to locate the missing individuals.
