On Vijayadashmi, BSF Performs Ritual Weapon Worship Honouring Operation Sindoor
BSF soldiers offered flowers and mantras, consecrating arms as symbols of defence and power.
Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from the 1055 Artillery Regiment stationed along the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer performed a traditional 'Shastra Pooja' on Vijayadashami, honouring weapons—including those deployed during Operation Sindoor—with rituals symbolising strength and vigilance. The ceremony, held amid chants of "Bharat Mata ki Jai", underscored the troops' unwavering commitment to national security, as the firearms were adorned with tilak, consecrated with coconuts, and offered flowers while reciting Shakti mantras, treating them as sacred embodiments of power.
Operation Sindoor, India's swift retaliatory strike against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, highlighted the BSF's role in countering cross-border threats. The worshipped arsenal, pivotal in that operation, represents not mere tools but the force's pride and readiness. Inspector General (IG) ML Garg of the BSF Rajasthan Frontier emphasised the ritual's deeper meaning: "Weapon worship is the worship of power... the BSF is, by and large, the most experienced force today." He praised the unit's expertise in anti-drone technology, which proved crucial during Sindoor, alongside seamless coordination with the Indian Air Force and Army's air defence systems, ensuring robust preparedness for future contingencies.
The event, a longstanding Dussehra tradition among border guardians, serves as both a cultural homage and a strategic message to adversaries. Battalion officers affirmed their resolve, declaring readiness for "Operation Sindoor-2" if directed by the government. Deployed in harsh desert conditions, these soldiers dedicate their lives to safeguarding India's frontiers, viewing the pooja as a reminder of their duty to dismantle nefarious activities from across the border.

Vijayadashami, marking the triumph of good over evil in Hindu mythology, aligns seamlessly with the military's ethos of valour and discipline. Similar ceremonies across BSF outposts reinforce esprit de corps, blending spirituality with operational resolve. As the nation celebrates Dussehra, the Jaisalmer ritual highlights the armed forces' dual role as protectors and cultural custodians, inspiring civilians while deterring foes.
