Omar Abdullah Condemns Delhi Blast, Urges Nation Not to Target Kashmiri Muslims

CM urges unity, says few extremists don’t define Kashmiris.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly condemned the deadly Delhi car blast near the Red Fort that killed 13 people and injured over twenty, while warning against the growing wave of suspicion targeting Kashmiri Muslims. Addressing reporters in Jammu, Abdullah said it was “deeply unfair” to equate an entire community with terrorism because of the actions of a few individuals. His remarks come amid fears of profiling after the arrest of several Kashmiri doctors linked to the explosion.

Abdullah said that violence and religion could never be associated, stressing that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered immensely from terrorism and deserve empathy, not prejudice. “We must remember one thing — not every Kashmiri Muslim is a terrorist or linked to terror groups,” he said. “Only a handful destroy the peace and harmony that we all want to protect.” The Chief Minister urged citizens to reject hate narratives and stand together against divisive tendencies.

The comments came after the arrests of Dr. Umar Mohammad, Dr. Muzammil, and Dr. Adeel Rather, all medical professionals from Pulwama and Anantnag, for alleged links with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The accused reportedly played key roles in the planning of the November 10 blast, carried out using a Hyundai i20 packed with explosives near the Red Fort Metro Station. Their connection to the Pakistan-based terror outfit has intensified public debate about radicalization among educated youth.

Calling for swift and impartial justice, Abdullah demanded “strict punishment for the guilty and protection for the innocent.” He also expressed shock over what he called “security lapses,” questioning how individuals with known extremist backgrounds managed to evade scrutiny. “If they were expelled from jobs earlier for suspicious activities, why was prosecution not pursued?” he asked, urging the Centre to conduct a deeper probe into possible intelligence failures.

The Chief Minister reiterated that his administration would fully cooperate with national agencies to maintain peace in the region. Emphasizing Kashmir’s image as a land of harmony, Abdullah said, “We will not let the actions of a few tarnish the reputation of an entire people.” His appeal struck a chord across political lines, as calls grew for unity, restraint, and accountability in the aftermath of one of Delhi’s most horrific terror attacks in recent years.
