Odisha Woman Dies After Receiving Alleged Wrong Injection For Fever

A 55-year-old woman died after allegedly developing a severe reaction following an injection administered at a medicine store in JK Pur, Rayagada district, Odisha, police said. The incident occurred on Thursday and has led to a police investigation after the woman's family alleged that the injection was responsible for her death. The woman, identified as Baidehi Kumar from Getipada village under Chandili police limits, had reportedly been suffering from fever and cold for several days.

According to her family, Baidehi visited a medicine store at JK Pur after her condition did not improve despite taking medicines. A staff member at the store, identified by police as A K Bhadra, allegedly administered an injection to her. Soon after receiving it, Baidehi reportedly developed severe adverse reactions and her condition deteriorated rapidly.

Family members then rushed her towards the Rayagada district headquarters hospital for treatment. However, she died while being taken to the hospital, police said. Her family subsequently approached Chandili police station and lodged a complaint, alleging that the injection administered at the medicine store had led to her death.

Following the complaint, Chandili police detained Bhadra for questioning and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman's death. Police said they have received a written complaint from the family and are examining the circumstances under which the injection was administered. The detention is part of the ongoing inquiry, and the exact circumstances of the incident have not yet been established.

Chandili police station Inspector-in-Charge Uttam Sahu said the person who allegedly administered the injection had been detained for questioning. Police are examining the sequence of events and other relevant evidence as part of the investigation. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry and the medical evidence available to investigators.

Police said the exact cause of Baidehi's death can be determined only after the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis. The investigation is ongoing, and any responsibility for the death will be established based on the medical findings and evidence gathered by the authorities.
