Nutritionist Shares Food Tip To Manage Constipation While Travelling

Nutritionist shares a simple food tip for travel constipation relief.

Travelling often brings changes to daily routines that can affect digestion, with constipation being one of the most common complaints among people on the move. Long journeys, altered meal schedules, unfamiliar foods, reduced water intake and disrupted sleep patterns can slow bowel movements, leading to bloating, discomfort and digestive unease during holidays or business trips.

Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain has suggested black prunes as a simple food option that travellers can consider carrying to support digestive health. Sharing a travel-related gut health tip on Instagram, Jain explained that black prunes are naturally high in fibre and contain compounds that may help promote regular bowel movements.

According to the nutritionist, travel constipation often occurs because the body struggles to adjust to sudden changes in routine. Differences in eating habits, time zones, lower fluid intake and reduced physical activity during journeys can contribute to slower digestion. Including fibre-rich foods like black prunes may help maintain better gut function during such situations.

Jain recommended consuming around five to six black prunes before bedtime when travelling and concerned about constipation. However, she also advised maintaining adequate water intake, as increasing fibre consumption without enough fluids may cause digestive discomfort. Eating excessive amounts of prunes may also lead to loose stools or stomach issues for some individuals.

Apart from including fibre-rich snacks, health experts generally recommend staying hydrated, remaining physically active and following balanced meal patterns while travelling. Small adjustments in daily habits can help reduce digestive disruptions and make journeys more comfortable.

While black prunes may be a convenient option for some travellers, individual digestive responses can vary. Maintaining overall gut-friendly habits, including sufficient fluid intake and regular movement, remains important for supporting healthy digestion when away from home.
