NTA Update: 7,70,441 Candidates Appeared in JEE Main 2026 Till Jan 23; Nanded Advisory Issued

NTA reports 96.15% attendance in JEE Main 2026 till Jan 23; an advisory is issued for Nanded candidates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday announced that the third day of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1 concluded smoothly, with an overall attendance of 96.15 per cent recorded up to January 23. The examination, which began on January 21, is being conducted across the country in two daily shifts and will continue until January 29.

According to the official update released by the NTA, 770,441 candidates have appeared so far out of the 801,326 candidates scheduled for the examination. The agency said the strong turnout reflects effective coordination and adherence to examination protocols at centres nationwide.

The NTA also reported that Aadhaar-based verification was successfully completed for 740,412 candidates, accounting for 96.10 per cent of those who appeared. In addition, 2,563 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates took part in the examination during the ongoing session, the agency added.

JEE Main 2026 is being held in two shifts each day, with the morning session running from 9 am to 12 noon and the afternoon session from 3 pm to 6 pm. The examination serves as a key gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions, as well as a qualifying test for JEE Advanced.

The NTA attributed the smooth and orderly conduct of the examination to seamless coordination with state and district authorities, as well as disciplined participation by candidates and staff at examination centres. It reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair, secure, and transparent testing process.
