Noida Airport Features 3,900m Runway and 10-Min Check-Ins

Noida Airport's fog-ready runway enables 10-minute check-ins.

India’s newest aviation landmark, Noida International Airport, is set to begin commercial operations this spring with infrastructure designed to handle some of the region’s toughest weather and streamline passenger processing. The airport — inaugurated on March 28, 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi — marks a major expansion of the National Capital Region’s (NCR) connectivity and is expected to ease congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Situated in the town of Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the airport has been developed as a greenfield project to serve both domestic and international travelers. Its 3,900‑metre runway, designated as Runway 10/28, has been equipped with advanced Instrument Landing System (ILS) technology at both ends, allowing aircraft to safely land and take off in low‑visibility conditions, such as dense winter fog that frequently affects the NCR. This fog‑ready capability is designed to minimise flight disruptions and improve operational reliability during periods of poor visibility.

In addition to enhanced runway systems, the airport’s terminal incorporates modern digital technologies aimed at reducing passenger processing times. Facilities including self‑service check‑in kiosks, automated baggage drop counters, and other e‑services have been deployed to support a targeted 10‑minute check‑in and baggage drop experience, significantly cutting down wait times compared with traditional procedures at many major airports.

The airport’s design reflects broader ambitions to transform Jewar into a major regional aviation hub. Phase 1 of the project includes the ready terminal and runway infrastructure capable of handling tens of millions of passengers annually, while future expansion plans envisage multiple additional runways, terminals, and commercial zones to support growth up to 60–120 million passengers per year over the next decade and beyond.

Noida International Airport’s opening is also set to deliver economic benefits across Western Uttar Pradesh and the wider NCR. It is expected to spur job creation, facilitate tourism, and attract investment by strengthening air connectivity with major cities in India and overseas. Ground transport links including expressways and dedicated bus services are planned to ensure seamless access to and from the airport for both local and long‑distance travelers.

With its combination of advanced navigational aids for all‑weather operations, streamlined passenger services, and ambitious future build‑out, Noida International Airport aims to set new benchmarks for airport infrastructure in India while reshaping the region’s role in global aviation.
