No More Letters To Pakistan! India Halts Mail, Parcel Services with Pakistan
India Halts Mail, Parcel Services with Pakistan Amid Pahalgam Attack Fallout
India has suspended all inbound mail and parcel exchanges with Pakistan through air and surface routes, effective immediately, as tensions soar following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists.
The Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, issued the order on Saturday, citing “cross-border linkages” to the attack, which India attributes to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate, The Resistance Front.
The move follows a series of punitive measures announced on April 23, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border, and downgrading diplomatic ties by expelling Pakistani military attaches.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a high-level meeting on April 29, granted the armed forces “complete operational freedom” to respond, vowing a “crushing blow” to terrorism.
Pakistan retaliated by closing its airspace to Indian airlines, suspending all trade, including via third countries, and declaring India’s treaty suspension an “act of war.” Islamabad denies involvement, with PM Shehbaz Sharif offering a “neutral” investigation.
The postal ban, alongside a trade embargo, will further strain Pakistan’s economy, already hit by India’s ban on direct imports.
Experts note the symbolic weight of these measures, given India’s minimal $0.42 million imports from Pakistan in 2024-25. As both nations brace for potential escalation, the UN and US urge restraint.
