NO MORE BUMPY RIDES!! Delhi PWD Sets April 30 Deadline to Fix 7,000 Potholes
The Public Works Department (PWD) has launched an ambitious plan to fill 7,000 potholes across Delhi’s roads by April 30, 2025, as outlined in an official directive.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has launched an ambitious plan to fill 7,000 potholes across Delhi’s roads by April 30, 2025, as outlined in an official directive. The initiative follows a February 21 presentation to the Delhi Council of Ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, where timelines for tenders and repairs were finalized. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh is spearheading the effort, addressing a key grievance that dominated the recent Delhi Assembly election campaign.
The directive, issued to senior PWD officials, mandates strict adherence to the set deadlines. Immediate pothole repairs are underway using departmental maintenance vans, while a broader repair plan targets 20 lakh square meters of damaged road patches. Tenders for these repairs are expected to conclude by March 15, with all work completed by the April 30 deadline. The dual approach aims to swiftly improve road conditions that had deteriorated into a political flashpoint.
Delhi’s pothole-ridden roads were a major issue during the elections, where the BJP clinched a decisive victory, securing 48 of 70 seats and reducing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to 22. The BJP’s promise of infrastructure overhaul resonated with voters frustrated by years of neglect. Recent PWD efforts, including repairs at IGNOU Road and Patparganj Road, reflect early action, though the scale of 7,000 potholes underscores the challenge ahead.
The timeline leaves little room for delay, with less than two months to execute both tendering and repairs. Success could bolster the BJP’s credibility in its first term, while failure risks reviving public discontent. As maintenance vans roll out and tenders near completion, Delhiites await tangible results from a government eager to prove its mettle.
