NMC Directs Medical Colleges To Meet CCTV Surveillance Requirements
NMC orders CCTV compliance across 70 medical colleges.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed 70 medical colleges and institutions across India to immediately comply with mandatory CCTV installation and surveillance-sharing requirements. The directive comes after several institutions were found to be non-compliant with existing NMC regulations requiring camera installation, live feed sharing, and preservation of surveillance footage.
According to an NMC public notice dated July 6, medical colleges are required to install 25 CCTV cameras at specified locations, establish a Network Video Recorder (NVR) system, provide live surveillance access to the Commission, and maintain 30 days of recorded footage for review. The regulations are part of the NMC’s efforts to strengthen monitoring and accountability within medical institutions.
Rajasthan reported the highest number of non-compliant medical colleges, with 13 institutions failing to meet the requirements, followed by Maharashtra with eight. In Delhi, eight medical colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were identified as violating the CCTV surveillance norms prescribed under earlier NMC regulations and amendments.

The Delhi institutions listed by the NMC include Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, University College of Medical Sciences and other associated medical facilities. Several other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Punjab, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Kerala, and West Bengal, also have institutions that have not completed compliance.
The NMC said its teams have repeatedly followed up with medical colleges that failed to install the required CCTV systems or share surveillance feeds through NVRs. Despite these efforts, some institutions have not yet connected their systems with the Commission, prompting the latest direction for immediate compliance. The regulator has warned all affected medical colleges and institutions to follow the prescribed surveillance guidelines without delay. The move is aimed at improving transparency, strengthening institutional monitoring, and ensuring that medical colleges maintain the required standards under NMC regulations.
