Nitish Transfers ₹2,920 Crore To Over 49 Lakh Students' Accounts

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday transferred Rs 2,920 crore to the bank accounts of over 49 lakh students under various education welfare schemes, reinforcing the state’s commitment to improving access to education. The funds, disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), benefit 4,909,336 students enrolled in schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Balika (Intermediate Pass) Protsahan Yojana, Mukhyamantri Cycle Yojana, Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika Poshak Yojana, Scholarship Scheme, and Kanya Utthan Yojana, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

During the same event, Kumar inaugurated 331 infrastructure projects worth Rs 958.79 crore to bolster educational facilities across Bihar. These include 259 completed projects costing Rs 426.10 crore and the foundation laying for 72 new projects valued at Rs 532.69 crore. The initiatives aim to enhance school infrastructure, including classrooms, science laboratories, libraries, computer rooms, hostels, toilets, and drinking water facilities, ensuring a conducive learning environment for students.

The CMO highlighted significant growth in Bihar’s education budget, which has risen from Rs 4,366 crore in 2005 to Rs 77,690 crore in 2025. This increase has supported the appointment of numerous teachers, construction of new school buildings, and development of essential infrastructure. The government emphasised its dedication to providing quality education to all children, a priority as Bihar prepares for assembly polls later this year.
