Nitish Kumar’s Rs 25,000 Tablet Power Move Ahead of Bihar Elections

Nitish Kumar grants Rs 25,000 tablets to Vikas Mitras ahead of Bihar polls.

In a significant move to empower grassroots welfare workers, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Sunday that over 10,000 'Vikas Mitras' will receive a one-time allowance of Rs 25,000 each to purchase tablets. These workers, tasked with delivering government scheme benefits to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in villages, will use the devices to enhance their efficiency in managing and storing beneficiary data.

The announcement, made weeks before the state assembly elections, also includes increased allowances for Vikas Mitras. Their monthly transportation allowance will rise from Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,500, and the stationery allowance will increase from Rs 900 to Rs 1,500. These measures aim to strengthen the outreach of welfare programs under the SC and ST Welfare Department.

Additionally, Kumar revealed that over 30,000 Shiksha Sevaks and Talimi Markaz, who facilitate school education for children from Mahadalit, minority, and extremely backward communities, will receive Rs 10,000 each to purchase smartphones. The annual allocation for teaching materials at Talimi Markaz centers will also double, from Rs 3,405 to Rs 6,000 per center.

“Our government is continuously working for the upliftment of the deprived sections of society,” Kumar stated in a post on X. He emphasized that the tablets for Vikas Mitras would streamline data management for various welfare schemes, ensuring better implementation and transparency.

The announcements reflect the Bihar government’s focus on leveraging technology to improve access to education and welfare benefits for marginalized communities. By equipping Vikas Mitras and education workers with modern tools, the state aims to bridge gaps in service delivery and empower local facilitators to connect underserved populations with government initiatives.

As the state gears up for the upcoming elections, Kumar’s initiatives underscore a commitment to social equity and development. The enhanced support for Vikas Mitras and education workers is expected to bolster grassroots efforts, ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach the most vulnerable sections of Bihar’s population effectively.
