Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday inspected the ongoing construction of the Saidpur drain near Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna’s Rajendra Nagar area, urging officials to expedite work and maintain strict quality standards. The visit comes amid recurring waterlogging issues in the city during the monsoon season.
During the inspection, Chief Minister Kumar directed officials to ensure the timely completion of the project within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasized that quality and efficiency should guide all phases of construction, highlighting the drain’s critical role in preventing seasonal flooding and improving urban sanitation.

The Saidpur drain project is part of a broader effort to enhance drainage infrastructure across Patna. Parallel works are underway at Mandiri drain, Rajiv Nagar drain, and Serpentine Road drain. Officials said completion of these projects is expected before the upcoming monsoon, which would significantly reduce waterlogging and improve road connectivity.
Following the Mandiri drain project, the government plans to construct a four-lane road connecting Bailey Road at Income Tax roundabout to Ashok Rajpath at Bans Ghat. Additional roads are proposed along Rajiv Nagar drain and Serpentine Road to improve traffic flow and urban mobility.
Since assuming office in November 2025, Chief Minister Kumar has maintained frequent field visits to monitor key development projects, signaling a proactive approach to infrastructure management. Authorities believe that the completion of drainage and road initiatives will not only mitigate flooding but also ease traffic congestion in adjoining localities.
